Fantasy role-playing involves creating a character with a unique personality, distinctive appearance, behavior quirks and family background. Gemstone III permits you to shape your character according to your wishes.
A good roleplayer actually places himself or herself in the character's shoes and reacts as that persona would. In addition, you should speak and interact with other characters in the world as your persona would, in keeping with level, experience, profession, race, background, skills and other personality traits.
Once you have generated a character, you emerge with a set of numerical ratings for attributes, capabilities and skills. These in turn form the preliminary basis to determine the odds of your character accomplishing certain actions or goals successfully. Random rolls of dice in the game and other factors also modify such outcomes. For example, if your character attempts to climb a cliff, his climbing skill and dexterity will be important, as will the nature of the cliff and a roll of the dice.
